Nevada biker laws

As the weather warms up, more people will look to hit the roads on their bikes. If you are one of them, it is important that you are up to date on Nevada's biker laws.

These laws are in place to encourage everyone to share the road, as well as to help prevent accidents from occurring. In that vein, there are a few different laws to consider.

Key motorcycle laws

Nevada provides an operation manual that details motorcycle laws, as well as best practices. There are a few requirements to note, such as all riders, including passengers, must wear helmets. Bikers must also hold a valid Class M license, which requires a test and a license fee. As with any automobile, bikers must carry appropriate liability coverage. Teen drivers must also meet additional requirements, including completing a course, logging supervised riding hours and holding a motorcycle instruction permit for at least six months.

Rules of the road

Though you may not be able to avoid negligent drivers altogether, you can help to decrease your personal chances of being involved in an accident or sustaining injuries by following the rules of the road. Along with the biker specific laws, consider the general driving laws that apply to your driving area. For example, bikers must still signal properly and navigate traffic responsibly. With the speed and size of a bike, it can be tempting to bypass certain drivers or traffic situations. However, if doing so would be against the law or possibly dangerous, it is best not to do it. A good rule of thumb is to be a defensive driver, meaning to drive safely for yourself and those around you.

Following the laws will hopefully aid in keeping you safe on the road. However, depending upon your area, it may be beneficial to implement additional measures. Take some time to consider the best means of staying safe before you hit the road.
